Rule Change Proposals for the 2017-2018 season

The General Assembly was held at the 2017 United States Karate Alliance Nationals in ABQ on Thursday, March 23, 2017, from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m.  The members  voted on the following proposed changes to the United States Karate Alliance Rules.  Additional proposals may be submitted for next years event by emailing them to Cathy Davis at uskaratealliance@gmail.com.  The deadline to submit additional proposals is 30 days prior to the 2018 Nationals.

Proposed:

Rule 3.2.b  (PASSED)

Adjust the existing rule to include: Regional tournament Grand Champion points to seven (7) from five (5) points and double maximum tournament points to ten (10) from five (5) points. (double point were already 10)

Adjust the existing rule to include: Maximum Sanction event will be awarded three (3) points for 4th place(PASSED)

Rule 12.5.c  (FAILED)

If, after computation of the scores, there is a tie, the low score will be added back into the total.  If a tie still exists after the low score is added, the high score will be added back into the total.  If a tie still exists after the low and high scores have been added back into the totals, the competitors who have ties will be required to perform an additional form to break the tie. For intermediate and advanced competitors, the additional form performed must be a different form to break the tie. For beginning competitors, the additional form may be the same form again, or a different form to break the tie. (Excluding Weapon divisions). When two (2) competitors are tied, the Form Board will determine a winner, after both competitors have performed their respective tie-breaking form, by each member of the Form Board pointing one arm to the competitor they perceive to be the winner. When more than two (2) competitors tied or if the Form Board determines, the winner will be decided by scoring the individual competitors after they have performed their respective forms.

 

Rule 3.2.b  (PASSED)

Eliminate points for Grand Champion events for adult and youth kyu ranks.

 

Rule 7.2 YOUTH  (FAILED)

Add intermediate Girls Kumite to all divisions with an age 10 and older.

 

Rule 15.3.b  (PASSED)

Only current Alliance members over the age of 18 are allowed to vote on proposed rule changes in the General Assembly.  A member must have his/her card in order to vote.  One Parent or legal guardian of current Alliance members under the age of 18 may vote on proposed rule changes in the General Assembly.
